Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader
in storage solutions, today announced version 4.0 of its award-winning,
Linux-based GuardianOS™ operating system that comes standard on its Snap
Server network attached storage (NAS) solutions. GuardianOS is a unified
software platform that combines cross-platform file sharing with
block-level data access on a single network storage device to provide a
simple and flexible data storage solution ideal for departments, remote
offices, and small/medium distributed enterprises worldwide.

Notable new features include an easier-to-use graphical user interface and
Unicode support. Unicode delivers a universal architecture for multiple
languages, ensuring that stored corporate data from Europe and Asia-Pacific
countries is easily accessible and protected worldwide. The latest version
of GuardianOS also features upgraded software applications including the
latest release of Computer Associates' eTrust antivirus and BakBone's
NetVault backup software, complete with a 500GB virtual tape library (VTL)
license at no additional charge. VTL support enables customers to deploy
disk-to-disk or disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) backup strategies that provide
the time, performance and easy recovery benefits of disk-based backup that
can be combined with the long term cost-effectiveness of archival tape.

GuardianOS management interface for both block and file data, give Snap

president of marketing for Adaptec Systems and Solutions Division. "We
believe customers will find that the host of new features, as well as the
enhanced graphical user interface in version 4.0, make GuardianOS-based
Snap Servers even more cost-effective and easier to use."

Pollard added, "Unicode support is good news for our worldwide channel
customers, opening up new markets for Snap Servers in many countries that
previously didn't have access to the volume leading network attached
storage solution."
