Cannon Technologies Yukon(TM) Advanced Energy Services Platform and Milsoft Utility Solutions DisSPatch(R) outage management system passed independent interoperability testing using the MultiSpeak3 web services specification, the MultiSpeak Initiative announced today.
The companies successfully demonstrated integration using the new MultiSpeak specification, a major new release that offers real-time systems integration through web services. Web services is a popular transport method that can tightly integrate two applications from different software providers.
The interfaces enable Milsoft's DisSPatch outage management system to request the outage status of one or more AMR meters on Cannon's Yukon platform. Yukon then notifies DisSPatch of the current communication status of the meters. Milsoft can use this interface to request the latest meter readings from Yukon and can "ping" Cannon AMR endpoints.
Cannon's Yukon Advanced Energy Services Platform is a powerful, scalable, real-time platform using the industry-standard combination of Microsoft Windows 2000 and an SQL database, programmed with the latest industry- standard, portable tools. Yukon is sold as a stand-alone Master Station, or an enterprise-wide application server.
DisSPatch is a complete outage management system that provides for quick and efficient management of outages on an electrical distribution system. DisSPatch processes information from customers, crews and devices to locate and predict problem areas. DisSPatch helps system operators, dispatchers and supervisory staff effectively deal with any level of system outage, from the routine transformer outage to emergency storm restoration.
The MultiSpeak Initiative is a collaborative effort of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and more than 30 software providers and consultants serving electric utilities. MultiSpeak offers independent specifications that are used by software developers to simplify business process improvement and data integration at electric utilities, with particular emphasis on electric distribution cooperatives. The MultiSpeak specification defines what data is exchanged among commonly used software applications, and establishes standardized messaging formats.
MultiSpeak3 supports batch file transfers and real-time transport using web services, which standardize the transport of instructions and data among MultiSpeak-compatible software applications. MultiSpeak3 defines more than 200 unique web service methods to implement real-time data and process integration.
In addition to automated meter reading and engineering analysis, software applications covered in the latest specification include customer information systems, outage detection, outage management systems, field design software, geographic information systems, customer relationship management, load management, and SCADA.
About the MultiSpeak Initiative
The MultiSpeak Initiative fosters business process improvement and simplifies data integration at electric cooperatives through a collaboration between NRECA and more than 30 software companies and consultants who serve electric utilities. MultiSpeak has released a series of specifications that enable popular utility software applications to exchange data in a predetermined manner.
MultiSpeak3, the latest release, has defined 30 interfaces that encompass nearly every commonly used software application deployed at electric distribution co-ops, including automatic meter reading, customer information system, customer relationship management, engineering analysis, load management, mapping, outage management, SCADA, and staking.
