Discount Technology Workforce, Inc. (DTW) announced today that the United Way of Will County is now using VolunteerCenter 1.1, an information management system designed to improve the way the United Way match volunteers with more than ninety (90) social service agencies.


DTW donated the software, and will provide upgrades to meet the needs of United Way employees who staff the Volunteer Resource Center.


"Since 1991, the Volunteer Resource Center has matched the skills, experience, and credentials of 14,000 United Way volunteers," said Gary Fuqua, President of DTW. "What makes this duty a hefty chore is the fact that they do this work without any computer system to manage the massive amount of data."


"DTW designed VolunteerCenter 1.1 because we have a social responsibility to our community. The United Way helps thousands of people in Will County each year, and we hope our software will streamline their ability to match a volunteer to a need."


When a candidate calls the United Way to volunteer, an employee enters information into the database. VolunteerCenter 1.1 analyzes data such as the volunteer's age, reason for volunteering, and type of activity the volunteer wants to provide, and matches the volunteer with an agency needing someone with similar skills.


VolunteerCenter 1.1 has made an impact already, according to Nick Michna, Volunteer Coordinator for the United Way of Will County.


"What took us a half an hour now takes a few minutes," said Michna. "VolunteerCenter 1.1 has made matching volunteers with agencies a quicker and easier process."


Michael Hennessy, President and CEO of the United Way of Will County, agrees that VolunteerCenter 1.1 has made a major impact on the Volunteer Resource Center.
