Document Sciences Corporation (Nasdaq: DOCX), a global market leader in providing customer communications management solutions, announced today that two of its clients, Mutual of Omaha and Genworth Financial, have been recognized by Celent, LLC, a leading research and advisory firm focused on insurance technology strategy, as "Model Carrier Components" within its new report, Celent Model Carrier 2007: Case Studies in Effective Use of Technology in Insurance. In the report, Celent defines "Model Carrier Components" as examples of initiatives and practices that help insurers improve performance, meet market demands, and operate efficiently.
Celent selected Mutual of Omaha as a Model Carrier Component based on its agent portal initiative. Mutual of Omaha replaced a legacy, home-office based proposal generation system with a Web-based system built upon Document Sciences' award-winning xPression(R) software suite. "Using xPression, Mutual of Omaha's sales associates can assemble their own proposals from a centrally managed library of pre-approved content," explains Matthew Josefowicz, Manager of Celent's Insurance Practice and lead author of the report. "These proposals can be printed locally in real-time by the sales associate, or in batch at the home office."
Genworth Financial was also recognized for its efforts to create a print "center of excellence" that would apply a branded, unified look and feel across all business documents. Leveraging xPression, Genworth is standardizing the production of customer communications onto one platform to reduce costs, eliminate redundant systems, and support its branding initiative. "The number of redundant documents and the effort required to maintain documents at Genworth have been slashed," says Josefowicz. "Reuse of document components is becoming the norm, and Genworth cites seven-figure savings as a result of the initiative."
"We are very pleased that our customers have been acknowledged for their efforts to apply technology in order to better serve their clients and improve their overall performance," says Liza Smith, Vice President for Document Sciences. "As evidenced by the Celent report, the xPression software suite continues to provide reliable and innovative solutions for automating the creation of highly personalized documents and reducing costs throughout the insurance industry."
The report, which was presented at Celent's inaugural Model Carrier Summit in New York on January 16, 2007, contained case studies of 39 technology initiatives and practices across most functional areas of insurance. Model Carrier Components were selected by Celent's team of insurance analysts. Nominations were solicited from over 100 insurers in the US and internationally.
