Dot Hill Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: HILL), a market leader in providing flexible storage offerings and responsive service and support to OEMs and system integrators (SIs), today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company U.S. patent 7,107,320, entitled "Data Mirroring Between Controllers in an Active-Active Controller Pair."

The patent pertains to a novel and highly efficient messaging protocol for efficient data mirroring which offers dramatic performance improvements. The technology reduces the time required for a primary controller (the target of the write operation) to mirror data over to a secondary controller, thus improving available bandwidth for both controllers.

The invention was developed by Dot Hill's engineering team at the company's Longmont, Colo. technology center. The invention is part of Dot Hill's growing patent portfolio which enables the company to continue to provide innovative products to a growing list of OEM customers.

"Dot Hill is constantly pushing the envelope to ensure optimal storage system performance and scalability to address the needs of high-volume environments and critical applications," said Jim Kuenzel, senior vice president of engineering, Dot Hill. This patented technology processes write requests more rapidly, while improving overall system performance."
