Baltimore Technology Park (BTP), a premier data center and the largest carrier-neutral facility in the state of Maryland, today announced that one of the nation's leading providers of digital media services, EastBay Media, has chosen BTP to house its primary data center and to augment its bandwidth. Based in Columbia, Maryland, EastBay Media is a recognized pioneer in the fast-growing field of Internet video, which requires an enormous amount of bandwidth to reliably deliver content to viewers.
EastBay Media provides enterprise-class streaming audio and video, webcasting, podcasting, web hosting, content delivery and production services. Its clients include federal government agencies such as the United States Navy and Department of Defense, state and local governments, large financial institutions, major corporations and educational institutions like the University of Virginia and Duke University. In order to meet increasing demand for the delivery and production of video and audio on the Internet, EastBay Media turned to BTP to secure more bandwidth and move its data center to the more secure facility.
"Our bandwidth and uptime needs are extremely demanding because our customers rely on us to consistently deliver thousands of audio and video clips to any size audience," said Brad Pumphrey, a noted and respected pioneer in the fields of Internet video and webcasting, and the founder and president of EastBay Media. "Thus, our datacenter and bandwidth needs far exceed those of most companies. After a rigorous due diligence process, we chose Baltimore Technology Park due to its fast connections to our other network nodes, redundant systems, available room to scale and their willingness to work with our specific needs."
Prior to selecting BTP, EastBay Media visited all of the major colocation facilities within one hour of its Columbia, Maryland headquarters. "The confidence EastBay Media has placed in BTP by choosing us for its data center and bandwidth needs is a strong testament to the high level and range of services we provide," said Jeana Chaffin, director of product marketing for BTP. "We look forward to working with EastBay Media as they continue to grow."
BTP, which opened only eight months ago, recently announced another new customer win and launched a $3 million build-out to meet current demand and anticipated growth. The data center is in the process of an 11,000-square- foot build-out to create room for an additional 250 server cabinets and more space for cages and suites. Six thousand square feet will consist of raised flooring available for colocation. The remaining 5,000 square feet will be designed for employee and client workspace, kitchen, break and conference rooms.
