On2 Technologies, Inc. (Amex: ONT) today announced that it has completed the development of a new software development kit (SDK) for delivering live streaming video to the Macromedia(R) Flash(R) Platform from Adobe.
Working closely with Adobe, On2 Technologies has designed the On2 Live SDK for Flash to enable customers to deliver live streaming video directly to Adobe's Flash Media Server 2.0 using Adobe's RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol).
The pairing of the On2 Live SDK for Flash with Flash Media Server 2.0 brings broadcast-quality video webcasting to the Flash Platform. Using the SDK, software developers can create applications that encode and deliver live Flash video at the highest image quality while also maintaining low streaming latency.
The Macromedia Flash Player is distributed more widely than any other software on the Internet, reaching over 98% of personal computers connected to the web. The On2 Live SDK for Flash allows webcasters to finally provide this massive audience with video that is superior in quality and reliability to competing formats that require large media player downloads and complicated user configuration.
