Peerless Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: PRLS),
a provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies and components
to the digital document market, today announced the new Direct2PDF™
software development kit (SDK) for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
of multifunction products (MFP) and printers. The new Direct2PDF SDK
enables OEMs to create custom applications that allow users to specify
print job options such as number of copies and two sided PDF file printing
without using Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to open the PDF file first
and then print using a printer driver. OEMs can use the Direct2PDF SDK to
build workflow applications that enable capabilities such as batch
printing, drag and drop printing, and customizable hot folders.
The new Direct2PDF SDK provides a simple, object oriented framework to aid
OEMs in developing PC host applications that enable end users to instantly
access special direct PDF printer features normally only available through
a printer driver. This enables OEMs to add significant value for their
customers without increasing development time and resources.
"The Direct2PDF SDK will give our customers the ability to create unique
printing applications that leverage the broad utilization of PDF
technology," said Dr. Robert Westervelt, Chief Technology Officer, Peerless
Systems. "Peerless continues to add value to our suite of high quality,
high performance PDL SDKs."
Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format developed by Adobe Systems
with the goal of enabling users to easily exchange and view electronic
documents. Because PDF is the specification of a document format, it does
not provide any support for print job management related settings. Job
related information is not included in a PDF document. Peerless'
Direct2PDF SDK provides OEMs and their users a seamless solution to this
problem.

Peerless' Direct2PDF SDK has shipped to an OEM and is available for other
OEMs to license now. The Direct2PDF SDK supports both the Windows and
Macintosh operating environments, and has complete documentation, sample
applications, and support available.
