Technology industry news provided by Financial News USA (OTC: FNWU) Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) is now offering a local directory service that will give users specific directions to what is nearby, using a Global Positioning System to pinpoint their current location. The technology is provided by InfoSpace (NASDAQ: INSP). The service, called InfoSpace Find It!, will carry a monthly charge, although Sprint didn't say how much. It is available on about 20 of the company's phone models. The market for mobile directory assistance products is worth more than $3 billion this year, according to InfoSpace, which developed the Find It! technology last year

CQIP Investments has forwarded a letter of Intent to Satelinx (OTC: SLXI) to acquire 51% of Satelinx. The deal would include the transfer of assets and businesses totaling over US$100 million over the next four months. CQIP will also add a minimum of US$25 million through a letter of credit facility for further development and acquisitions. More evidence has emerged that Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is getting ready to blanket the U.S. with free Wi-Fi, as Business 2.0 senior writer Om Malik reported last year. Now, the company has filed for three patents related to offering wireless Internet access. Search Engine Roundtable points out that the patents all have to do with serving up advertising through a wireless Internet connection maintained by a third party, whose brand Google would include in the presentation of those ads. Sounds a lot like Google's latest plan to unwire San Francisco, where it has teamed up with EarthLink. By teaming up with partners who would build the actual Wi-Fi infrastructure, Google could complete a nationwide Wi-Fi network much more quickly than if it had to build it itself.
