Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) May 8, 2006 -- The .ORG Public Interest Registry (PIR)—which oversees the international distribution and licensing of Internet domain names for nonprofit organizations (those that end in .org)— announced the appointment the seven newest members to its Worldwide Advisory Council, including U.S. representatives Angela Stuber and Michael Mann.
The Panel, which consists of technology experts and nonprofit leaders from all over the world, invited Mann because of his experience as the leading distributor of .ORG Internet outlets for public interest groups & his innovative efforts to provide high-end Internet services to nonprofits around the globe through grassroots.org. Stuber was selected because of her tireless commitment to bridging the ‘digital divide,' experience working with small technology-focused nonprofits, and innovative broadband community action efforts.
The Advisory Council, created in 2003, is one of PIR's key resources established to solicit input from and be responsive to the needs, concerns, and views of the global noncommercial Internet community.
Mann's knowledge of the large-scale issues of domain registration for nonprofits, and dedication to promoting social change and action through Grassroots.org led to his appointment to the Advisory Council. Mann founded Grassroots.org to spread valuable social information throughout the world, and to provide free services to other organizations to help save them money and further their own missions. Says Mann, of his appointment, «I have always been the biggest buyer and developer of .orgs and continue to have a deep commitment to uniting the nonprofit community online. This affiliation should help in our mutual pursuit.»
Stuber was selected because of her unwavering dedication to asserting that the needs of small nonprofits are met, and wealth of experience working to promote the public interest by advocating for equal access to technology through the Ohio Community Computing Network (OCCN) and CTCNet. Says Stuber, «My work as director of OCCN and board chair of CTCNet, both umbrella organizations supporting grassroots efforts to bridge the digital divide, has afforded me the opportunity to fully understand the needs of small non-profits, technology focused non-profits, and those serving disadvantaged communities. I am excited to bring this important perspective to the Council.»
